People's little speeches and little defiances and little freedoms are things that he can easily crush if they don't suit him, but their attentions must always be paid. It's letters are as steep and perfect as always, but there is an unmistakable, precarious malice building beneath his orders, should they continue to go unfulfilled. )

( The Potter's small family, just now beginning in the midst of the rest of the world trying to pull itself down around them, walk a particularly narrow tightrope. With just a husband, wife, and infant son they represent so many different political affiliations and loyalties between them that something had to give eventually. Lily is the type of person being watched by the government, and James is the very person who is charged with doing that watching. When Crouch Sr.'s order comes to James, it makes it clear that being a memory of his police force is not a position from which a person can be reassigned or resigned. )

Spells and enchantments are documented with no exception or oversight, creating a fast-growing record of everyone's lives and the magic they perform in them. This streamlined proficiency is nothing less than Crouch Sr. expects, but there is one major flaw that destroys any satisfaction he may get from his latest clever bid at control: it hasn't yet worked. There are some who did not make an appearance at the Registration, and he is too smart a man to not know that there are others out there who will manage to bypass registering at all, but with the majority of the country waiting to see if his methods work, he releases an order to his select few officers he has chosen to trust. With no one volunteering to break his laws, he must invent an offence himself. )

( The Prophet's press is set with enough ink to spread word to everyone in the country of the latest law to bend wizarding society into it's new, mutated shape. It's words are glowing, praising and simple, but on the desks of an entire Department of the Ministry for Magic, a bundle of folders, pamphlets, and official copies are stacked, Crouch Sr.'s memo perched neatly on top. )
